Why they submitted this recipe: My son asked me to submit this recipe. I think he is missing it! I love this recipe because it is easy and flexible with ingredient toppings. It can be made with or without meat and is still delicious every time! My son asks for this for his first dinner back home every time!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground mild Italian sausage
  • 1 15 oz. jar pizza sauce
  • 2 16.3-ounce tubes large refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
  • 1/2 cup diced onion (dime-sized pieces)
  • 1 green pepper diced (dime-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (quarter-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni (sliced in half)
  • 1/4 cup olives (green/black/other - optional if desired)
  • 2 cups part skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup reduced fat cheddar cheese grated Parmesan cheese to garnish
  • *My favorite recipes allow you to substitute your favorite ingredients. Have fun and try beef for Italian sausage, Canadian bacon for pepperoni, different vegetables or try to add pineapple, goat cheese, olives, or whatever your favorites are!

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Heat a large skillet on medium heat
  3. Add Italian sausage and break apart with cooking utensil into small pieces until brown (drain, if necessary)
  4. Stir in pizza sauce into skillet and add vegetables and pepperoni
  5. In a greased 9" x 13" baking dish, tear biscuits into quarters and place evenly in a single layer
  6. Bake baking dish with biscuits for 5 minutes and remove from oven
  7. Carefully top biscuits with sauce mixture, spreading into an even layer.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes
  9. Remove from oven and sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese over biscazza
  10. Place back in oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until cheese is melted to desired level Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving and enjoy!
