Ted Schmitt

Ted Schmitt is the senior director of conservation at AI2, where he leads the Earth System Program. With over 15 years of experience, he has applied technology to tackle conservation challenges, particularly in Africa, through initiatives like the EarthRanger Program, used in over 600 wildlife reserves globally, and the Skylight Program to counter illegal fishing.

Before joining AI2, Schmitt was a study director at the National Academies of Science and held business development roles at tech startups in Germany, Sweden and the U.S. He began his career as a software engineer at IBM. He holds a Master of Arts from George Washington University and degrees from Purdue University and Universität Hamburg.
