Eugene Kelly

Eugene Kelly, a soil scientist with a decades-long career in agriculture, urbanization, and climate change, has been appointed by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to a three-year term as chair of the U.S. National Committee for Soil Sciences.Ìý

Kelly is a professor of pedology in the atÌýColorado State University. He also serves as director of the , which supports research across seven colleges at CSU and 11 research centers across the state in fulfillment of the university’s land-grant mission.

He also serves as an advisor to the United States Department of Agriculture with the National Cooperative Soil Survey, the National Science Foundation and several major research programs, and is a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America. In 2016, he was the recipient of the Soil Science Society of America Research Award.

Kelly’s research centers around the effects of global change on soils, while accounting for vulnerability and instability caused by changing climatic and land use conditions.Ìý
