David W. Brown is a freelance writer whose work has been featured in publications such asÌýThe New Yorker,ÌýThe New York Times andÌýScientific American. His first book,ÌýThe Mission (2021), chronicles the efforts of a group of scientists who spent two decades persuading NASA to send a spacecraft to Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. His upcoming memoir,ÌýThe Outside Cats (Mariner Books), recounts his expeditions to Antarctica and the collaborative international research team studying rapid sea-level rise in the region.

An endurance runner, former U.S. Army paratrooper and Afghanistan veteran, Brown is also a dedicated volunteer with local animal rescue organizations. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and a degree from Louisiana State University.

Brown lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he continues his writing and volunteer work.
